Mental Health and Debt Guide A free downloadable guide produced by MoneySavingExpert.com supported by Mind, Rethink, CAPUK and others, for people with mental health problems and those caring for them. It provides tips on how to cut your debt using real life case studies to show how to excape from debt and work with banks. Transition and Family Finance Working Families have produced a booklet "From Child to Adult: A guide to disability, transition and family finance". It outlines what the young person and their family are entitled to and how this may change during the transition period of 16,17,18 or 19 years. Forums
Chill4us Chill4us is a forum run by carers for carers. It offers a lifeline for carers to talk to other carers without having to leave the person they are caring for. You do need to register but it's easy to use and comment. Through the Forum you can also access a 24 hour Chatroom. www.chill4us.com
Parents of Disabled Children A very active forum for parents of disabled children where they can help others, share experiences and provide information and advice. It is run by a father of a disabled child. www.parentsofdisabledchildren.co.uk
Youreable The Youreable Forum is an online community for people with disabilities to share their experiences and support each other. It currently has 5 forums on benefits, work, health, travel or motoring. You need to register to join in the discussions.
Information and Advice
Cerebra Cerebra, a charity for children with brain related conditions have created an Information resource section "Get Information" to signpost parents to useful organisations and relevant information. The resource will be up and running soon as Cerebra are moving items across to their new website. Cerebra also have a postal lending library of books on neurological conditions, DVD's and sensory toys. It can be used by anyone in the UK (including Northern Ireland). It is free to use.
Citizens Advice Bureau Citizens Advice provides a free and confidential advice service to help people with legal, money and other problems. They are able to offer advice at their local offices around the UK or by telephone. On-line advice on your money, family, daily life and legal rights can be found on their Advice Guide website. This includes information on your responsibilites as an small employer if you are employing a carer through Direct Payments and benefits for people who are sick or disabled. www.citizensadvice.org.uk
Counselling Directory The Counselling Directory is an on-line resource to help you find a local counsellor and for your own individual needs. It lists full profiles of each counsellor, the areas of counselling each counsellor offers, their fees and background information. The site also includes useful articles and information on the different types of psychological therapies available. www.counselling-directory.org.uk

Mental Capacity Act The Home Farm Trust (HFT) have created a PDF Guide to the Mental Capacity Act. "Using the Mental Capacity Act - A guide for families and friends of people with Learning Difficulties" can be downloaded from their website. The guide is supported with videos and gives links to further information from other organisations. Able Radio Able Radio is a live, on-line, radio station presenting shows at the heart of the disabled community. All presentations are by disabled presenters and those living with limiting medical conditions. It offers great music, information and chat focussed on the ability in disability. The Able Radio "family" of listeners and contributors has expanded to include carers, family members and friends, social and health care professionals. www.ableradio.com
Autism Radio UK Autism Radio UK was estabished to remove barriers of social communicaton for people with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. It broadcasts music, interviews, talks, competitions and topics about Autism related issues. You can listen to the station live from their website. www.autismradiouk.co.uk
