The Headley Trust
The Headley Trust is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts that provides grants for the disabled, carers and the elderly.
It has a small grants programme providing grants of up to £2,000 to help disabled people purchase equipment.
All disabilities are included and applicants must be over 16 years.
The trust is able to provide funding towards items such as electric wheelchairs, adapted computers, communication aids, stair lifts, scooters and adaptations to vehicles - any equipment that will improve quality of life.
Applications should be referred by a third party such as a registered charity, social worker, hospital or Citizens Advice.
Any grant awarded will be for no more than half the total cost of the equipment and will be released via the referring organisation when funds to meet the total cost has been raised. Grants will be available from one year of the date of approval.
Applicants must have insufficient personal funds to purchase the equipment for themselves.
They must either be in receipt of benefits such as Income Support and Employment Support Allowance or have an income of less than £106 a week after payment of mortgage, rent and council tax. Proof of income and benefits will be required.
