Whitby, Ryedale & Scarborough DAG have three Landeez All-terrain Wheelchairs - purpose built lightweight manual wheelchairs suitable for adults and children.
These wheelchairs are designed to be pushed by an attendant/ carer and can be used in the countryside, on a sandy beach and in shallow water (up to 6ins/ 15 cms deep).
The chairs have large pneumatic tyres, padded upholstery, leg support length adjustment, foot rest angle adjustment, foot pillow, wheel lock, adjustable armrests and seat belt.
The chairs are easy to dismantle and reassemble - no tools are required. A detachable harness, detachable head and neck support are also available.
There is a maximum user weight limit of 23 stone/ 146 kilos.
During the summer season, two of the all-terrain wheelchairs are kept at Whitby foreshore,(Whitby Beach Management Centre) available for hire to use on Whitby beach.
A wheeled transport bag is available for taking a chair to the countryside or to another beach. Details are available from the DAG office.

for £2 per hour/ £6 per session (up to 3hours) £10 returnable deposit or from the DAG office: £10 per day £50 5-7days

I have a 5 year old daughter who is wheelchair bound ... she loves the beach but we struggle in her wheelchair
It would be amazing if we could rent a wheelchair on the beach.
